Al Friesen bought the farmstead in Meade, Ks in 1961. A brand was needed so the animals could be identified when they would get mixed up with the neighbor's cattle, so Al decided to make a F with a broken bar on top of it. This hints to the name of the farm.

Al's Broken Bar Farms is operated by Al, Lyle, and Brandon Friesen. We use John Deere tractors and supporting equipment to get our 3,000 acres of cropland ready. We grow our own wheat, milo & feed. In addition to farmland, Al's Broken Bar Farms has a herd of 300 Angus cows on 10,000 acres of grassland. Our Angus cattle are FOR SALE. Pictures available on Photo page under Cattle
We use horses to work, move our cattle from field to field, and just for fun when people come to visit.
